Jordanian Mawdoo3.com draws $1.5m investment

AMMAN: Mawdoo3.com (www.Mawdoo3.com) online encyclopedia, which operates in Jordan, signed a partnership agreement with Dubai-based Equitrust Investments company worth $1.5 million, to support Arabic content and increase the number of Arabic pages on the internet.

Founders of the encyclopedia Mohammad Jaber and Rami Qawasmi told Petra on Wednesday: “This investment aims to support Arabic content online, increase the number of Arabic pages on the internet, and strengthen the encyclopedia’s capabilities.

” Qawasmi stressed that “this investment is a major step towards strengthening the useful and informative websites’ content, which is owned and developed by Arabs, and, through this agreement, we hope that we encourage other individuals to create alternative Arab platforms that can reach, over the time, the level of Western websites in terms of easy access and content credibility.

” Mawdoo3.com is the third-largest Arabic content site, according to Effective Measure statistics and it provides internet users with qualitative articles and reliable reference for Arab readers. It also reaches 13.5 million unique visitors per month.

The number of Arabic content pages since the start of internet has reached 660 million pages, while the total number of pages on the internet amounts to 74.5 billion pages, according to Effective Measure statistics.
