HANOI: Vietnamese seafood firms are having difficulty exporting their products to Russia and other Eurasian countries in spite of a recently signed trade agreement, the Vietnam News reported.
In May, Vietnam reached a trade agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), a grouping that includes Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, a potential market of 182 million people. The agreement reduced tariffs between the group and Vietnam from as much as 53% to zero.
However, confusion and inconsistency about the implementation of “very strict” sanitary rules in Russia and other EAEU members are restricting seafood exports.
