FBR first-time selects IR man for investigating Customs officers

KARACHI: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has constituted a two-member committee for probe into corruption of two Customs officers.

According to sources, the FBR has constituted committee comprising Additional Collector Appraisement (West ) Muhammad Nayar Shafiq and Assistant Director Intelligence Investigation Inland Revenue Karachi Asif Ali Abro to investigate corruption charges against Superintendent Preventive Service (SPS) Javed Akhtar Mughal. This is first time that Inland Revenue Officer has been included for probing a corruption case against the Customs Officer.

The sources said that FBR has directed Collector (Preventive) Tariq Huda to assist the committee so that hurdles are not created in way of investigation against the Customs Officer. The sources disclosed that Javed Mughal was allegedly involved in assisting smuggling of goods and Iranian Oil from Iran and Afghanistan.
