JAISALMER: Jaisalmer adjoining the Pakistan international border was once considered haven for smuggling. But after the fencing and alert guarding by BSF, smuggling across the border has almost become nil, but at godowns of many police stations, heroin and charas worth Rs 1,000 crore that were seized at the border around 20-25 years ago are still lying, waiting to be disposed. Apart from this, heavy quantity of RDX, gold, silver and fake currency of Rs 25 lakh, doda post, opium are also lying in these godowns.

Barmer and Jaisalmer adjoining Pakistan international border were once considered the silk route with regard to smuggling. Prior to 1992, there was no fencing at the border and the Indian border outposts were 20-25km away from the border and taking advantage of this smugglers used this route and even after fencing the smuggling continued. But in the last 3-4 years, there has been heavy decline in smuggling incidents across the border and in the meantime, at the godowns of many police stations, heroin worth crores of rupees, RDX, pistols, etc., are waiting for disposal.
