Customs Intelligence foils bid to export poppy seed to Malaysia

KARACHI: The Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigation-Customs Enforcement has foiled a bid to export poppy seed by mis-declaring the goods as sea salt under PCT 2501.0030.

In pursuance of credible information received by Director, Customs Intelligence intercepted a consignment of 3×20 containers no. MSKU-7072409, MSKU-4187913, and MSKU-7400616 at Qasim International Containers Terminal (QICT) which were being exported through the Model Customs Collectorate Exports, Karachi under PCT Heading 2501.0030 which covers sea salt.

The consignments was being exported to Malaysia by M/s Shah Plastic Industry Karachi through clearing agent M/s Deejay Connection-II and allowed for shipment through Green Channel of Web Based One Customs (WeBOC).

The examination by the staff of the intelligence resulted into recovery of 34,050 kilo gram of poppy seed from two containers having wholesale market value at Rs 8.172 million in two containers while value of 17,000 kg of declared sea salt is Rs 215,900 in third container.

The goods restricted for export vide S No 8 of Schedule-II of EPO 2013 have been seized. Besides, FIR has been lodged against the exporter.
