Dubai expecting more tourists on Eid

DUBAI: Foreign trade of Dubai during Eid festival has risen up to around AED28.2 billion in 2014, with a 12 percent increment as compared to same period in 2013.

The flourishing tourism season helps increasing the demand for Eid products. Dubai is expecting more tourists on this Eid as the emirate’s tourist attraction sites and luxurious malls are offering unrivalled, memorable shopping experience.

As many as 600 thousand tourists visited Dubai during the last Eid-ul Fitr and Dubai customs’ statistics show that its foreign trade in ready-made wears reached up to AED13.3 billion in 2014, with a 12 percent increase compared to the same period in 2013.

Meanwhile, the perfumes and cosmetics trade grew by 11 percent to AED10.2 billion, of which AED6.5 billion imports, AED897 million exports and AED2.8 billion re-exports.

Director of Strategy and Corporate Excellence Ahmed Abdul Salam Kazim said that supporting Dubai economy is our top priority. Dubai Customs is also keen on enhancing the role of shopping and tourism sector, he added. ‘The constant coordination with all commercial groups steered by the DC’s Advisory Board, seeking to boost cooperation with traders and investors.’ He added Dubai Customs is also keen to improve its performance and minimizing the time needed for clearing goods. Such endeavours are maintained by the constant development of information technology applications to further enhance and expedite border clearance.
