Saud recalled that in April 2010 customs officials had foiled a bid of smuggling of pulses under the garb of rice to Dubai. He said that following a tip-off regarding smuggling of pulses, he examined 23 containers on Port Muhammad Bin Qasim and broke their seals in presence of other customs officials.

He found the containers stuffed with around 12,000 bags of pulses. Subsequently an FIR was registered against exporter Muhammad Ilyas of M/s Faraz Industrial Corporation, Kashif Kareem, Ameer Khan, Waseeh and other their accomplices for smuggling of pulses under the relevant sections of Customs Act 1969.

The hearing was put off till September 15 when the court is expected to record the statements of prosecution witnesses.
