TIRUCHY: In a major haul, customs officials seized 592 grams of gold bars, from a traveller here the other day. With this, the Tiruchy airport officials have seized over six kilograms of gold in the last four days.
The man identified as Abdhul Rahman (23) of West Chinthamani in Tiruchy arrived here by Tiger Air from Singapore. He had concealed the yellow metals in an electric stove worth Rs 15 lakh.
On Sunday, air customs unit here seized one kg of gold bars valued over Rs 25 lakh from a passenger identified as Anis Khan (34) of Chennai, On Saturday, officials seized 567 grams of gold worth Rs 14 lakh, which was smuggled by N Christopher of Marthandam. On Friday, AIU officials seized four kg of gold bars from two women passengers.
