LHC issues stay order on luxury tax

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has issued injunction or stay order regarding the imposition of luxury tax on big houses.

Lahore High Court Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza has restricted the government to collect the luxury tax on the houses which are above two canals area. On hearing the application filed by a local citizen Zain Shahzad, the court asked the chief secretary and secretary excise to submit the answer.

The applicant took stand in application that the Punjab government had also announced the collection of luxury tax last year but later government had to revise the decision after it was challenged in the court. It was requested in application that the Section 8 of Finance Act should be banned regarding the luxury tax, while the court adjourned the hearing of the case till after the Eid.
