Algeria authorities arrest two smugglers

ALGIERS: Two smugglers were arrested and a huge quantity of fuel and food intended to be smuggled was seized here the other morning in the West and South of the country, said the Ministry of National Defence in a statement.

“As part of measures to strengthen border security and fight against organized crime, units of the National Gendarmerie of Reggane of the operational area of Adrar (3rd Military Region) arrested, on 25 August 2015, two smugglers and seized a lorry loaded with 19.26 tonnes of foodstuffs and 1,850 litres of fuel intended to be smuggled,” said the statement

“In the 2nd Military Region, units of the National Gendarmerie of Tlemcen and Bab El-Assa seized a private car and a commercial car, as well as 13.5 quintals of copper scrap and 1,670 litres of fuel,” added the statement.

“Two detachments of the People’s National Army of the operational area of Bordj Badji Mokhtar seized an all-terrain vehicle, seven metal detectors and two mobile phones,” said the statement.

“Another Army detachment of the operational area of El Oued (4th Military Region) seized 1,600 litres of fuel,” added the statement.
