SECP registers 18898 companies in five years

ISLAMABAD: Out of total 64,322 companies 18898 including 848 foreign companies have been registered during last five years with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP).

The year wise incorporation of companies stands as 3041, 3385, 3925, 3960 and 4587 companies in financial year 2009-10, 2010-11, 2011-12, 2012-13 and 2013-14.

Available documents reveal that out of total 64,322 companies, there are 558 public sector listed companies and these companies have listed capital Rs 1,154 billion with total market capitalization of Rs 7,019 billion.

The documents show three new listings during 2013-14 with a listed capital Rs 17,783 billion. This trend marks the progress and development in Pakistani capital market.

There is also a huge number of 2256 unlisted public sector companies. Similarly, the biggest number 57882 is the private companies and there are 1830 single-member companies. 71 companies are limited by guarantee while 642 associations are non-profit. There are 230 trade organizations.
