Customs Inspector suspended for helping smugglers

MULTAN: Customs Intelligence & Investigation (I&I) wing has suspended an Inspector of the wing for allegedly helping smugglers and launched an investigation against him.

Sources told Customs Today that after getting information that some insiders (Customs officials) are helping the smugglers, Customs I&I Multan has started investigation to overcome the situation.

During preliminary probe it was revealed that some officials were supporting smugglers during their duty and they were in contact with the smugglers for smuggling goods from Dera Ghazi Khan region. After collecting evidence and completing comprehensive investigation, Customs I&I has started taking action against the accused officers and suspended Inspector Farzand Ali for giving safe passage to the smugglers for smuggling goods.

Customs Intelligence & Investigation Additional Director Nisar Ahmad said that action would be taken against the officials involved in corruption according to law.

Customs I&I Multan covers three regions of South Punjab including Dera Ghazi Khan, Sadiqabad and Multan, and two provincial borders of Balochistan and Sindh. To stop smuggling in this vast area, Customs I&I has to deploy a large number of its staff.
