MAHARASHTRA: The Hire Bagewadi police arrested three persons and seized an illegal consignment of 213 kg of silver worth Rs. 52 lakh from them here the other day. The police also seized Rs. 11.89 lakh in cash from the accused, all of whom are from Maharashtra’s Sangli and Kolhapur districts.
According to the police, the accused were smuggling the consignment by road from Vita in Sangli district of Maharashtra in a car to Salem in Tamil Nadu.
The accused have been indentified as Dilip Anand Bendagar of Mahuli in Khanapur taluk and Satish Bhagwan Suryavanshi of Morale in Tasgaon taluk (both) of Sangli district, and Khanderao Pandurang Vaghmare of Rendal of Hathkanagale in Kolhapur district.
Acting on a tip-off, the police stopped the vehicle on Pune-Bengaluru National Highway 4 near Hire Bagewadi.
During inquiry, the accused failed to produce any supporting document for the silver and the cash they were carrying.
A case has been registered. Further investigation is on.
