CAPE TOWN: A Chinese woman has downed an entire bottle of cognac at Beijing Capital International Airport when customs officials refused to let her to take the bottle of fine brandy on the plane.

Identified only as Miss Zhao, the lady reportedly in her forties, was heading through customs on a flight transfer to Wenzhou when she was stopped at the security checkpoint for having a bottle of Rémy Martin XO Excellence, valued at roughly R2 600, in her carry-on baggage.

When she was stopped, Zhao found herself in a bit of a dilemma: she could either leave the brandy behind for some vulturous security officials to indulge in later, or experience the fine liquor for herself (albeit in a rather condensed manner…).

The choice was a simple one, really: Zhao glugged down the cognac by herself.  This in turn created a new security problem as a rather inebriated Zhao started acting wildly and yelling incoherently.  Zhao, said to be so out of it, fell to the floor and didn’t have it in her to get up again. It was then that police arrived at the scene and refused to let her board her flight out of concern that she had become a security risk to others.
