Customs directs ASO to take action against illegal diplomatic vehicles‏

MULTAN: The Model of Customs Collectorate Multan has directed field staff of the Anti-Smuggling Organization to take action against the illegal registration of imported diplomatic vehicles by officers of Excise and Taxation along with others.

Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation FBR regional office Karachi has conveyed to the Model of Customs Collectorate Multan for assistance against the illegal registration of vehicles through a notification. The National Accountability Bureau Sindh had assigned a thorough investigation on the illegal registration of 18 imported diplomatic vehicles under section 22(B) with section 27 of the NAB Ordinance 1999.

The investigation was initiated against the 18 imported diplomatic vehicles in violations of the provisions of the SRO 506(I)/88 without obtaining the sale permission and  no objection certificate (NOC) from Ministry of Foreign Affairs and concerned Customs Collectorates respectively.

The illegal registration of imported diplomatic vehicles have caused loss to the revenue of the national exchequer. In pursuance of these 18 illegal diplomatic vehicles  Directorate of Customs Intelligence have conducted  investigations  against illegal registration of these vehicles. During investigation it was revealed that 18 illegal imported vehicles were registered by Motor Registration Karachi to non-privileged persons within five years of the importation.

Those vehicles which were registered without obtaining permission and no objection certificates includes Toyota Land Cruiser, Toyota Celcior, Toyota Corolla ,Toyota Surf, Mitsubishi Pajero, Toyota Corona and others .Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation have requested the model of Customs Collectorate Multan to intercept these 18 illegal registered vehicles in their jurisdiction if found.
