NEW YORK: In July 2015, the world witnessed the beauty of blue moon but now it is the time to move on with that scenario. In September 2015, we are going to see a full red moon, which will be a harvest moon and will feature a total lunar eclipse.
Everybody knows by now that the Earth casts a shadow while travelling around the sun. Towards the end of September, the moon is going to move across that shadow and at that time we will be able to witness the beauty of lunar eclipse. Moreover, this will be the present year’s largest full moon with a breathtaking view.
An eclipse expert and an alumnus of NASA, Fred Espenak said it is expected that the lunar eclipse will start partially on September 27, beginning at 9:07 pm. At that moment the moon will travel into the penumbral shadow of the planet. The moon will advance into the planet’s umbral shadow after an hour. It is predicted that at 10:11 pm, we will be able to witness the total lunar eclipse and will see an orange-red moon.
Espenak said the reddish moon totality will end within one hour and 12 minutes beginning at 10:11 pm and will last at 11:23 pm. Once the reddish totality ends up we will be able to see the second partial phase of the event because the shadow will start departing from the surface of the moon. It is expected that the second phase will end at 12:27 am.
