Customs Tribunal disposes of 40,914 cases in decade

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Customs Appellate Tribunals have heard and disposed of as many as 40,914 customs cases from across the country in decade (2005-2015), it is learnt.

Documents available with the Customs Today revealed that 3,132 cases were still pending with the eight benches of Customs Appellate Tribunal in Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore and Peshawar.

According to details, in sum, 44,046 cases had to be heard by the Customs Appellate Tribunal’s benches. Out of these, 39,282 cases had been filed after 2004, while 4,764 cases were pending from prior era.

Out of these cases, the tribunal’s benches disposed-off 40,914 cases which were decided by the benches.

In this regard, sources added that newly appointed Customs Appellate Tribunal Chairman, Ghulam Murtaza Bhatti was likely to speed-up hearing proceedings considering the pending number of cases which exceeded figure 3,000.
