Japan stocks lower at end, Nikkei 225 declines 0.39%

TOKYO: Japan stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic, Gas & Water and Paper & Pulp sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 0.39%.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma Co Ltd (TOKYO:4506), which rose 4.80% or 60.0 points to trade at 1310.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Kyowa Hakko Kirin Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:4151) added 2.74% or 53.0 points to end at 1989.0 and Mitsubishi Logistics Corp. (TOKYO:9301) was up 2.25% or 32.0 points to 1453.0 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:5101), which fell 4.62% or 100.0 points to trade at 2065.0 at the close. Showa Shell Sekiyu K.K. (TOKYO:5002) declined 4.37% or 44.0 points to end at 962.0 and Mazda Motor Corp. (TOKYO:7261) was down 4.22% or 84.5 points to 1919.5.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1510 to 366.

Shares in Mazda Motor Corp. (TOKYO:7261) fell to 52-week lows; falling 4.22% or 84.5 to 1919.5.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 5.31% to 37.08.

Crude oil for October delivery was down 2.05% or 0.93 to $44.48 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in October fell 1.69% or 0.84 to hit $48.72 a barrel, while the December Gold contract rose 0.06% or 0.70 to trade at $1140.50 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.61% to 120.08, while EUR/JPY rose 0.27% to 135.43.
