ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has prepared cheques of sales tax refunds up to August 31 for the export sector, as ordered by the finance minister.

At the same time, the tax officials working in all Regional Tax Offices (RTOs) have reportedly deleted data of some refunds cases, due to which the exporters are facing difficulties in getting their due amount. Some exporters even approached the FBR with their complaints. On the other hand, the tax officials confirmed the deletion of data, but they blamed the faulty data system for such glitches.

Talking to Customs Today, source said that due to the heavy burden of refunds and fast approaching deadline, the officials have to clear all these refunds cases. Therefore, the officials completed as much work as possible, while the remaining refunds data was deleted from the system, they claimed.

Now, the exporters will not be able to get their full refunds, as data had already been removed from the system. Sources said that most exporters will face difficulties in getting their refunds claims, as they will have to go through a lengthy procedure for it.
