PANAJI: The air intelligence wing of the commissionerate of customs in Goa arrested and subsequently released on bail Mohammed Shaffi, 26, resident of Karwar, Karnataka for allegedly smuggling 1.380 kg of gold worth Rs 33.5 lakh.
Shaffi, who boarded the Goa-Dubai via Mumbai flight arrived in Goa at 7 am. Custom officer said that the accused opted for green channel without declaring the gold. When the bags of Shaffi was screen at the airport, custom officer found some suspicious object.
Custom officer directed accused to open the bag and found AC voltage convertor. After opening the convertor, gold biscuits were found inside.
