Customs Court tells tax evasion suspect to appear within 10 days to avoid being declared PO

LAHORE: The Customs Court has ordered an accused of sales tax evader Muhammad Asim, son of Sheikh Muhammad Bin Yamin, to appear in court within 10 days; otherwise he would be declared a proclaimed offender.

Muhammad Asim was accused of smuggling and a case was registered against him under the Customs Act, 1969.

The Inland Revenue (IR) Faisalabad had registered a case against Asim under Sections 2, 32 and 37 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), as he was allegedly found involved in sales tax evasion. Faisalabad Inland Revenue had also registered a case against him in 2013, but could not arrest him to date.

Now, the accused has been told to appear in court within 10 days; otherwise he would be declared a proclaimed offender. As per data available with Customs Today, Muhammad Asim is a resident of Karachi.
