BRUSSELS: Bechtle is to open a specialist public sector business in Belgium to better serve customers in the EU’s administrative centre.

Bechtle Public Belgium NV began its life as a trading entity yesterday. Its headquarters will be in Bechtle’s Belgian base of Neerpelt, and it will also have a location in another existing Bechtle office in Brussels. Gozard Polak has been appointed managing director of the new public sector business, a role he will combine with his post as leader of the Bechtle Brussels business.

The new unit will “cater to the specific needs of government agencies”, as well as complementing the operations of Bechtle’s system house business in the Belgian capital, “which will continue to concentrate on project business with EU institutions”, the reseller claimed.

“The fact that we were able to win a number of high-profile EU customers in the past, including the European Commission, the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union, and the European Investment Bank, greatly simplifies our approach to the public sector,” said Polak. “Our extensive portfolio and our online shop, available in English, German, Dutch, and French, provide the perfect foundation to establish another successful business unit.”

As well as being Belgium’s capital city, Brussels is usually considered the capital of the EU, with many of the EU’s governing institutions based there. The Europe Commission sits in Brussels, as does the Council of the European Union, the European Council, and the foremost seat of the European Parliament.

Belgium is an attractive market offering significant growth potential,” added Jürgen Schäfer, executive board member at Bechtle AG. “The new company allows us to better address very specific requirements, for example by differentiating between EU institutions and state agencies. Gozard Polak’s extensive experience and our established organisations in Belgium provide a sound starting point to further our reputation as a customer-centred IT partner.”
