Malaysian Court charges 4 smugglers for smuggling 324kg drugs

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Four people, including a woman and two foreigners, were charged with smuggling 324kg of drugs in the Sessions Court here the other day. However, no plea was recorded from Balakrishnan Jaganathan, 57, Lacheme Devi Balasundram, 52, from Taman Sri Rambai and Mohammad Abbasi Younes,23, and Syedmohsen Namazikivaj Seyedreza,27, both from Iran after their charge was read out to them by a court interpreter before Judge Norhayati Mohamad Yunus.

They were charged to possession and supply of prohibited drugs after their drug laboratory was busted by police in Taman Sri Rambai at 10.10pm on Aug 20. They are charged under Section 39B(1)(c) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries the mandatory death penalty upon conviction. Norhayati fixed Oct 5 for mention pending chemist report. Deputy Public Prosecutor Kamaliza Md Zain prosecuted. Two weeks ago, Penang police crippled a drug syndicate in three separate raids and seized 324kg believed to be syabu (in liquid form) worth RM20 million.
