HILTON HEAD ISLAND: Beaufort County officials say they appear on their way to a record year for tourism. The area Chamber of Commerce says more than 1.6 million visitors have made it to Beaufort County this year, with an additional million (people expected before the end of 2015.
These are the most toxic places on earth. The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports that state Department of Transportation data shows extra 1,000 vehicles made their way on to Hilton Head Island each day this summer. Officials say the record shows their aggressive efforts to draw in more visitors have worked. They also credited the improving economy and falling gas prices.
