TOKYO: The total value of overall bank lending in Japan was up 2.7 percent on year in August, the Bank of Japan said on Tuesday, coming in at 490.282 trillion yen.
That exceeded forecasts for an increase of 2.6 percent, which would have been unchanged from the July reading.
Excluding trusts, bank lending climbed an annual 2.8 percent to 426.342 trillion yen. That also topped forecasts for 2.7 percent, which would have been unchanged.
Lending from trusts added an annual 2.1 percent to 63.940 trillion yen, while lending from foreign banks slipped 7.1 percent to 1.813 trillion yen.
