FAISALABAD: The Directorate of Excise and Taxation Faisalabad has collected Rs 430-440 million after a 50 percent increase in property tax which is Rs 160 million more than the last year’s recovery, said Director Excise and Taxation Rana Intikhab Hussain.

He was addressing a meeting in the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) on Wednesday. The meeting was also attended by the representatives of various trade associations, including Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers Association, All Pakistan Textile Processing Mills Association, Anjuman-e-Tajran, Sizing Association, Dyes and Chemical Association and Yarn Merchants Association.

To the reservations of business community about 50 percent increase in the property tax, he said that a meeting was scheduled to be held in Lahore on Thursday (today) and he would try to convey their reservations.

He said, “No employee can create unnecessary problem for any individual,” he said, adding that in case of any complaint, it would be addressed positively within three days.

About licence fee, he said that the district government was collecting the tax. “However, I will convey your problems regarding this tax to the district coordination officer,” he assured.

He said that his directorate made efforts and maximum notices were issued with 50 percent increase and 5 percent concession for its in-time payment. He thanked the business community for cooperating in the payment of their taxes.

The director said that the property tax was being computerised which would further reduce the chances of corruption or harassment of the taxpayers.

Earlier, FCCI President Rizwan Ashraf praised the cooperation of the Director Excise and Taxation in resolving issues relating to his department. He, however, said that various trade associations from the platform of FCCI had unanimously agreed to increase the property tax by 20-25 percent but it has been increased by 50 percent. He said the government and its departments consulted business community on the PT, but their recommendations and suggestions should also be given importance in policy making.
