HONG KONG: The new images of the orange sun sent by International Space Station (ISS) are the talk of social media after NASA shared them. The picture is a composite work of five shots and the tiny crosses on the sun is the location of the ISS as it was when the pictures were taken.
A senior NASA photographer, Bill Ingalls, who has a huge amount of experience working with NASA, did the wonderful job of getting the images of ISS seen against the sun in the background. The viewpoint of these never-before images was Shenandoah National Park in Front Royal, Virginia. He was the one who took images of the moon as well when ISS crossed it last.
The five different shots that have been joined together to show the rotation of the ISS as it went ahead against the orange sun at the back. At a speed of 5 miles per second, the ISS did not take too much time to complete the rotation.
It is the very first time that nine astronauts are residing on board the ISS as it has a capacity of just ten. It has been their home since November 2013 and yesterday they had a press conference from up there with the media on Earth in a 45 min session. The media was from Japan, Russia, Europe and United States.
Taking in the view were NASA astronauts Scott Kelly and Kjell Lindgren; Russian cosmonauts Gennady Padalka, Mikhail Kornienko, Oleg Kononenko, and Sergey Volkov; Japanese astronaut Kimiya Yui, Danish astronaut Andreas Mogensen, and Kazakhstan cosmonaut Aidyn Aimbetov. The space agencies that have astronauts on board the ISS are NASA, the Russian Federal Space Agency (Roscosmos), the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), the European Space Agency (ESA), and the Kazakh Space Agency.
