IBL Operations Ltd evades Rs 24.464m taxes by taking undue benefits of FTA

KARACHI: Pakistan Customs Directorate of the Post Clearance Audit-Karachi detected at least Rs 24.464 million evasion of duties/taxes by IBL Operations Pvt Ltd by illegally availing concessionary benefits of FTA under SRO1261(I)/2007.

The PCA, during scrutiny of import data of IBL Operations Pvt Ltd revealed that the importer imported consignments of Pringles Snck and cleared the same from MCC Appraisment (West) and MCC Appraisment (East) through their clearing agent M/s Anwar Asghar Bros.

In order to avail concessionary benefits of FTA under S.R.O.1261(I)/2007 dated 31.12.2007 the importer mis-declared the goods under PCT heading 2004.1000 attracting customs duty at zero percent whereas the goods are correctly classifiable under PCT heading 1905.9000 chargeable to customs duty at 20 percent.

Thus, IBL Operations Pvt Ltd by mis-declaration of classification evaded/short paid custom duty Rs 19,416,304/-, sales tax Rs. 3,300,773/-, additional sales tax Rs 582,490/- and income tax Rs 1,164,976 /- totaling Rs 24,464,542/-.

Therefore, the importer IBL Operations Pvt Ltd asked to pay the short paid amount of duty/taxes within 10 days of receipt of this letter positively.
