Dar terms Dassu, Diamer Bhasha projects vital to curb energy crisis

ISLAMABAD: Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has said that Dassu and Diamer-Bhasha projects are very important as they will help curb energy crisis in the country.

He said this while chairing a high-level meeting with his ministry’s officials to chalk out a comprehensive plan for follow up of important decisions taken in his meetings during visit to the US. He also sought report with regard to rehabilitation of flood victims and IDPs.

The federal minister informed the meeting about his meetings in the United States with international dignitaries during the IMF, World Bank annual meetings. He lauded the CASA transit fee accord with Afghanistan and said that this pact a significant development of the visit besides the awareness of US investors regarding the Diamer-Bhasha Dam.

Ishaq Dar attended over 44 important events during the visit including meetings with US Deputy National Security Advisor Caroline Atkinson, IFC Executive Vice President Jin Yong Cai, IMF DMD David Lipton, Department of State Deputy Secretary William Burns, UK State for Development Secretary Justine Greening, OPIC President Elizabeth Littlefield, US Treasury Department Deputy Secretary Sarah Bloom Raskin, IDB President Dr Ahmed Mohamed Ali and Madeleine Albright. He also attended the Economic Working Group meeting. Senator Dar had useful interaction with representatives of Standard and Poors and Moody’s team. His address at the John Hopkins University was specially lauded.
