LINDSAY: Two people from Toronto are facing charges after police seized counterfeit American money that was used to purchase goods in downtown Lindsay.
Kawartha Lakes Police responded to calls about a woman attending downtown businesses and allegedly using counterfeit American $100 bills to buy items.
Police received a description of those involved and, shortly after 4 p.m., located a female suspect near a Kent Street West business. A second suspect was also arrested.
Officers seized more than $1,600 in counterfeit American currency along with property that had allegedly been purchased with the money.
Police are canvassing other police agencies in the Greater Toronto Area to determine if the suspects are responsible for similar occurrences in other jurisdictions.
Cristina Marcoccia, 41, is charged with six counts of uttering counterfeit currency, six counts of possession of property obtained by crime and one count of failing to comply with a condition of a probation order.
Taofeek Adeshina Olayori, 47, is charged with possession of counterfeit currency.
