MONTREAL: A fifth man was arrested in the case of $10m silver heist at the Port of Montreal, and about one third of the 16 tonnes of bullion recovered, according to ctvnews.
Raids on a dozen locations across Montreal – including homes, warehouses and an industrial property – yielded the five men aged between 35 and 53. First reports had four men arrested.
Police said tip-offs from the public helped them make the raids
Three of the five suspects made court appearances on Thursday morning before being released to appear at a later date.
They will face charges of theft of more than $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime, and conspiracy.
The daring heist occurred on Wednesday (September 2) when a stolen white 1997 Freightliner truck entered the port and picked up a grey 20-foot long container containing the silver.
The empty container was found on Saturday in Repentigny, an off-island suburb just north of Montreal.
They will face charges of theft of more than $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime, and conspiracy.
