Sialkot Anti-Corruption nominated 10 officials of irrigation dept in Rs 50m scam

SIALKOT: Anti Corruption Establishment (ACE) has registered Rs 50 million embezzlement and fraud case against Sialkot Irrigation Department’s Executive Engineer Marala Arif Mehmood, two SDOs Ghulam Qamar Zaigham, Junaid Butt and seven accused sub engineers Shehbaz Ahmed, Nasar Iqbal, Javaid, Muzaffar Ali Javaid, Nadeem Khawar Pasha, Mirza Sharafat Baig and Sajjad Zaheer.

According to the local senior officials of the ACE Sialkot, the special team of ACE comprising the technical experts had conducted a detailed inquiry into the matter on the special directives of the Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz. The ACE inquiry had proved the said accused officials guilty in this Rs 50 million financial scam. The embezzled funds were released by the Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif a year ago to save the people of Bajwat, Chaprar and Sialkot areas from recurring flood threats and disasters there.

Local MPA Rana Muhammad Iqbal Harnah had pointed out this big financial scam before the Punjab CM Shehbaz Sharif, who had ordered Anti Corruption Establishment (ACE) to probe into the matter. The ACE conducted a detailed inquiry and proved the above-mentioned accused officials as guilty.

After this inquiry, the Punjab CM Shehbaz Sharif had suspended the accused officials of Sialkot from service.

ACE has registered a case against them and stated investigation, with no arrest, in this regard.
