Customs seizes smuggled goods involving Rs 814 million taxes

KARACHI: The Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation has seized smuggled goods involving duty/taxes of Rs 814.52 million, including 9.9 tonnes of hashish costing Rs 800 million from Sept 1 to Oct 15, sources told Customs Today.

According to details, a team of Anti-Smuggling Organisation of the Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation has seized smuggled goods, including home inverter chargers (2400VA and 1200VA), Iran-origin ceramic tiles of various sizes, a truck, container, mini trucks, rubber processing oil, Indian-made chiffon cloth, LED TVs, tiles and oil tanker.

A joint ASO team of Karachi and Sukkur regions in a fresh development has seized 9.9 tonnes of hashish from Rohri Bypass. The seized hashish amounted Rs 800 million in the international market.

The intelligence and investigation department sources said it was a big success against smugglers and were of the view that the recent seizure would damage the nexus of drug peddlers in the country and abroad.
