SEOUL: State-run Korea Gas Corp (KOGAS) said its local gas sales last month rose 5.4 percent year on year, the first rise since January this year, due to alternative fuel demand for power generation triggered by a nuclear reactor outage.
The Hanbit No.2 reactor, located in Yeonggwang county, over 250 km (155 miles) southwest of Seoul, was shut on Aug. 8 before restarting it on Aug. 28.
The world’s biggest corporate buyer of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and South Korea’s sole wholesaler sold 2.08 million tonnes of LNG equivalent in August, up from 1.97 million tonnes a year ago, KOGAS said in a stock exchange filing on Friday. The total is equivalent to 93.23 billion cubic feet of natural gas, based on KOGAS calculations.
