NEW YORK: Search giant Google has quietly recognised the lasting legacy of the classic Nintendo video game – Super Mario Bros – in typical Google fashion.

The game has arguably shaped the definition of a video game for a generation of kids and adults alike, and Google has celebrated the anniversary with a small ‘easter egg’ – a tiny homage – inside its search results.

When searching the words ‘Super Mario Bros’ on Google, users will be treated to a small flashing question mark block, identical to those found scattered throughout the original game.

Clicking on the block will illicit an authentic 8-bit sound effect and generate a bouncing coin, much in the same way that Mario can knock question mark blocks for extra coins and points in the Nintendo game.
