NEW DELHI: Cops seized 85 cartons of illicit foreign liquor stacked in the godown of an optician’s shop in Bhagalpur and 14 cartons were seized in Munger from Sandalpur area under Kasimbazaar police station on Monday night.
In Bhagalpur, the raiding team led by civil SDO Kumar Anuj, DSP Shaharyar Akhtar along with excise department officials, seized 85 cartons and each carton had 24 bottles. According to sources, SSP Vivek Kumar had received classified information about hoarding of foreign liquor in city areas besides country liquor (sold in polythene pouches) at rural and suburban areas.
The SSP had also received complaints about serving of liquor on busy road and near shops made on government land, adjacent to Kutchery areas and at small eateries near Hotel Rajhans and other government establishments much to the embarrassment of passers by including women.
The raiding team also arrested a businessman Sushil for illegally hoarding liquor in his shop for which he wasn’t authorized. Shushil’s two staff – Ranjit Chowdhary and Manikant – have also been arrested. Sources said the shop has been sealed after seizure of the liquor. Action for cancellation of allotment of the shop would also be made by the DRDA, said sources adding the allotee violated the terms of the agreement.
Jagdishpur police led by SHO Subhash Vaidyanathan busted an illegal joint selling and making country liquor at Puraini Harijan Tola under Jagdishpur block. 35 litres of country liquor was seized from the place.
Munger SP Varun Kumar Sinha said on a tip-off, a raiding party comprising Kasimbazar, Kotwali and Jamalpur police stations led by ASP Krishna Murari Prasad was formed which swooped on the newly-constructed building in Sandalpur and unearthed a big manufacturing unit of illicit liquors. The SP also said thousands of stickers of different brands of wines, corks, machineries, bottle filling equipment, LPG cylinders and oven, besides 40 litres of alcohol were also seized from the house. More than a dozen fake driving licenses, passport size photographs of about two-dozen persons, affidavit on non-judicial stamps bearing Uttar Pradesh government marks, fake receipts of money purported to have been issued by the seal and signature of district transport officer, Munger, were also seized.
Jitendra Kumar, owner of the house along with Prakash Kumar, resident of Hazaratganj Colonwere arrested.
