Customs foils bid to smuggle Indian spices worth Rs 6m, three arrested

ISLAMABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organisation has foiled a bid to smuggle 17,000kg Indian spices worth Rs 6 million, which were being smuggled under Intra Kashmir Trade (IKT) at Azad Jummu and Kashmir’s Chakothi area and arrested three accused.

As per the details, customs authorities received information that the consignment was being smuggled from Azad Jummu and Kashmir to Rawalpindi. Sources said that during the checking, the customs officials recovered smuggled goods from a Hino truck bearing registration number P-8991 and a Shahzor truck bearing registration number SA-784 in Peshawar and Chakothi, respectively.

Sources told Customs Today that the customs authorities seized more than 17,000kg imported smuggled white cumin seeds and cardamom worth over Rs 6 million. It was revealed that the accused failed to show the import documents for the consignments.

Authorities lodged an FIR against the accused, while the seizure report of all the smuggled goods was sent to the adjudication collector. Further investigation and prosecution was underway in this case.
