ISLAMABAD: The government has signed a short-term agreement with Qatar to purchase liquefied natural gas (LNG) at the cheapest rate in Asia.
Federal Minister for Petroleum Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, in an interview, said that under the agreement, Qatar would charge $7.7 per cft gas, and some 24 cargo ships would be imported per annum. He said that the cargo ships terminal charges per day would be $150,000 and the 11th gas cargo ship would soon reach the terminal.
The minister said the government had not yet signed the long-term agreement with the Qatar government. Whenever any such accord is inked, purchase of LNG at the lowest rates would be ensured.
