LONDON: Gov. Rick Scott announced that recent growth in Florida’s four largest ports has catapulted them further into national prominence.
Scott cited a recent report by the Journal of Commerce on the 10 fastest-growing ports in the nation for overall volume of imports and exports, which placed PortMiami and Port of Palm Beach tied for No. 2 in the nation, Port Everglades at No. 7, and Jacksonville’s JAXPORT at No. 8 nationally.
The report also listed PortMiami as the No. 4 fastest-growing port for imports as well.
“It’s no surprise that Florida has four of the fastest growing ports in the nation,” said Scott in a statement Wednesday. “Our world class infrastructure allows goods to move efficiently across the world and we are continuing to set Florida apart in the global marketplace as a leader in exporting and importing products.”
“While these rankings are great news, we want Florida to hold the number one spot among all U.S. ports and be the best place in the world to do business. We must remain competitive in the global marketplace and we will continue to make strategic investments into our ports, roads and bridges so that businesses choose Florida over other states,” Scott continued.
The governor’s announcement comes as questions arise over the rate of Florida’s investment in its ports, commerce and transportation infrastructure.
