LONDON: Aerospace and defense company Saab has entered the port management technology market in the United Kingdom.
At the start of the month, Belfast Harbour Commission commenced live operations with the Swedish group’s KleinPort system. The harbor is using KleinPort to manage and track vessel operations and services, record cargo data, generate billing and execute data analysis and reporting.
“KleinPort is one of the most advanced port management information systems available today and is expected to significantly increase the efficiency of the harbor,” Anders Carp, head of Saab Traffic Management, said in a statement.
Saab has a variety of services and solutions it provides in military defense and civil security worldwide, but Belfast marks the company’s port management system’s debut in the U.K. market.
“Belfast Harbour had identified a need for a new port management information system and had a clear vision of what this should do to best support the needs of the port and its customers,” Trevor Anderson, Belfast operations director, said in a statement. “Saab demonstrated that their solution best meets all of our needs, marrying together innovation, technology, and cutting edge industry processes. “
Belfast is Northern Ireland’s principal maritime gateway and logistics hub, serving the Northern Ireland economy and increasingly that of the entire Republic of Ireland. Roughly 70 percent of Northern Ireland’s and 20 percent of all Irish seaborne trade is handled at the port each year.
