Khalid Javad elected chairman of re-rolling mills association

LAHORE: Khalid Javad has been elected new chairman of Pakistan Steel Re-Rolling Mills Association (PSRMA) for year 2015-16, while Dewan Abu Obaida Farooqui has been elected as senior vice president, Mian Arif Mehmood as vice chairman Lahore Circle and Akhtar Saeed as vice chairman Karachi Circle.

The election results were announced at the Association’s AGM held at LCCI on Saturday. Steel industry leaders and a large number of steel industry businessmen attended the AGM. The Executive Committee members elected for the year 2015-16 are: Dewan Mian M Ashraf, Mian Ahmad Hassan, Asmat Pervaiz Malik and Javed Iqbal Mughal for Lahore Circle while Shahnawaz Ishtiaq, Ghulam Ali Bhatia, Kashif Ayub and M. Iqbal Jafarani for Karachi circle.

Speaking on this occasion, the new PSRMA Chairman Khalid Javed called for downward revision of electricity and gas tariff, adding that energy shortage badly hampered the production of steel re-rolling mills. He urged government to implement an effective strategy to stop power and gas pilferage that hitting the entire steel industry hard and jacking up unemployment graph.

Khalid Javed said, Pakistan Steel Mills Karachi, where from billet of standard quality was obtained, is totally out of picture, adding that in order to meet international standard billet has to be imported and any proposal for change of duties on imported billet must be avoided.
