Huawei expects IT revenue at $10b by 2020

BEIJING: Huawei Technologies Inc expects its information technology service business revenue to jump fivefold to US$10 billion by 2020, the company said in Shanghai yesterday.

Huawei, the country’s biggest telecommunications equipment maker, has put IT services, carrier business and consumer group including smartphones as the company’s three major businesses. The IT services business, covering cloud computing and big data, is forecast to contribute US$2 billion in 2015 and US$10 billion in 2020, Huawei said.

“Cloud computing has become a new income growth engine of Huawei,” Xu Zhijun, the company’s rotating chief executive, told the Huawei Cloud Congress held yesterday in Shanghai. Around 1,000 participants from telecom companies and the IT industry are attending the conference.

At the conference, Huawei signed a deal with US-based Honeywell on cloud computing and big data yesterday.

China’s public cloud computing revenue will surge 33.2 percent annually from 2015 to 2018, from US$717 million last year, according to US-based research firm International Data Corp.
