WAYNESBORO:Now that Maggie Van Huss has retired, Waynesboro Public Schools needs a new Director of Student Services. The school board filled that position this past week, hiring Dr. Ryan Barber to take over the position.Dr. Barber has a variety of experience in public schools. He spent a decade working with Rockbridge County Public Schools as principal for Central Elementary School.
Before that, he worked as an assistant principal in Henrico County Public Schools and as a teacher in Prince George County Schools. Barber has a Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Psychology from Radford University, a Masters Degree in Administration and Supervision from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
In 2014, Barber was named the People’s Choice Educator of the Year by the Lexington/Rockbridge Chamber of Commerce. Right now, Barber is working on a post-doctoral course, in order to get a Special Education Administrator endorsement. Waynesboro Superintendent Jeff Cassell said that Barber understands the fundamentals of instruction, from working as a teacher and administrator.
