PATNA: Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI)-Patna officials on Saturday arrested two persons with eight quintals of ganja worth Rs 40 lakh hidden in an oil tanker at Bihta in Patna district. The DRI officials also nabbed another person in East Champaran with fake currency notes of Rs 6 lakh face value.

“The arrested persons have been identified as Devendra Mishra of Hardoi (Uttar Pradesh) and Jhamlal Yadav of Udwantnagar (Bhojpur). They had made a special chamber inside an oil tanker to hide the narcotic weeds,” DRI sources said adding the seizure was made at Bihta on Bihta-Aurangabad road.

DRI officials said the ganja was brought from Keonjhar in Odisha and headed for UP. “The estimated value of the weeds in international market is Rs 4 crore. There is 200%-300% profit in smuggling of narcotics which is why different syndicates take to it, especially during election time,” sources said.

In another crackdown, one Afroz Ansari was arrested with fake Indian currency notes (FICN) of Rs 6 lakh face value from Ramgarhva (East Champaran). “Ansari has admitted that the contraband was smuggled from Bangladesh via Malda district in West Bengal and would have been sent to different places from East Champaran,” an official said adding both operations were conducted on the basis of specific tip-offs.
