ISLAMABAD: Appellate Tribunal Inland Revenue (ATIR) Chairman Javid Iqbal is unimpressed by the legal challenge posed by the two removed members of ATIR.
Talking to the Customs Today, the ATIR chairman contended that the decision of removing Judicial Member Karachi, Javed Zikria and Judicial Member Lahore, Chaudhry Anwarul Haq was made lawfully, hence any legal challenge maneuvered by the terminated members was unlikely to help their restoration.
He said that he was confident that any legal forum in the country was unlikely to set aside the termination orders since they were issued on strong grounds. He mentioned that the charge-sheet against both terminated members was long; which could not be ignored at law forum.
Earlier, the chairman stated that Judicial Member Karachi, Javed Zikria and Judicial Member Lahore, Chaudhry Anwarul Haq were removed after numerous complaints were lodged against them by their colleagues.
He underscored that the decision to remove them was taken on merit and it was essential to be taken in order to improve ATIR performance.
According to reports, terminated members have approached Islamabad High Court, seeking to dismiss notices of their termination. The court has granted a stay order on the matter.
