Gepco recovers Rs 47m from electricity defaulters

SIALKOT: The special surveillance teams of Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) still remain unable to recover as many as Rs 47 million from as many as 42923 electricity thieves, which caught red handed by Gepco’s special surveillance teams during a crackdown against them during the month of August 2015 in Gujranwala Region’s all the six Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Mandi Bahaud Din, Hafizabad and Gujranwala districts.

According to the senior Gepco officials, the Gepco also got registered separate cases against as many as 23 big accused for electricity pilferage, in this regard. Gepco issued separate detection bills (amounting to Rs 95 million)to the said accused, out of which several accused yet deposited their detection bills (amounting to Rs 43 million) after being caught for electricity pilferage. However, the amount of Rs  47 million was yet to recover from these electricity thieves there.

When contacted, the concerned Gepco officials said that the amount would soon be recovered as detection bills, as the Gepco jazzed up its recovery campaign, in this regard.
