MEXICO CITY: Beginning March 3, American will begin nonstop service between Dallas/Fort Worth and Merida, Mexico’s biggest city on the Yucatan Peninsula.
American will fly five weekly round-trip flights between the cities on Airbus A319 aircraft. Ticket sales for the new route will begin Oct. 4. The route is conditional on regulatory approval.
“The addition of Merida gives our customers 21 destinations in Mexico, and we’ll now operate nearly 120 daily flights between our two countries,” Art Torno, American’s senior vice president – International and Cargo, says in a statement. “American was the first international airline to fly to Mexico in 1942 and we’ve been one of the leading international carriers in the country ever since.”
