NEW YORK: Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has agreed to pay $4.2 million to the L.A. Unified School District (LAUSD) as a settlement for a disastrous program titled “iPad for every student”, reports 9to5Mac.

Two years ago, Apple and the LAUSD partnered up to provide 640,000 iPads to every student by the end of the year. This partnership would have helped Apple earn around $30 million in the first phase, after which the completion of the program would have helped the iPhone maker earn around $250,000.

As the program initiated, the students managed to bypass the restrictions on the devices to allow them to use them for personal use as well, as opposed to their use for school work only; which was the actual motive behind the program. Later, the LAUSD was accused of miscalculation of the cost of the initiative which led to the suspension of the program, after which no efforts were made to restart it.
