MUSCAT: Officials from the Directorate General for Combating Drugs and Psychotropic Substances in Dhofar Police Command have arrested five persons on charges of drug possession and trafficking.
A police source said that information had been received about a boat entering Oman’s waters loaded with a large quantity of narcotics. The contraband was to be received by a group on the Al Magsail beach in Salalah.
The accused were caught red-handed when the exchange was taking place, with 1,755 packets of khat.
In a similar case, a team foiled an attempt to smuggle khat into Oman through sea. A boat was seized in Mirbat with 1,570 khat packets.
