AMSTERDAM: In the next few years, Belgian terminal operator C.RO Ports will invest between 30 and 40 million euros in the expansion of its terminal (known as Cobelfret terminal) at the Brittanniëhaven in the port of Rotterdam. The company wishes to ship significantly more trailers and containers to the United Kingdom via Rotterdam.
According to CEO Christian Cigrang, another goal is to increase the export of mainly German cars to the UK market via Rotterdam by 350,000 cars. This would be at the expense of the automobile export via the port of Bremen. Via C.RO Ports mainly Daimler export cars are transported.
The expansion of the terminal is related to the investment of several hundred million euros in twelve new RoRo vessels for sister company CLdN which was announced recently.
One of the adjustments is the doubling of the number of tracks to the terminal to four. After all, the cars will mainly be transported from Germany and Eastern Europe to Rotterdam by train. New cranes will also be installed to handle the increase in container freight.
